OUR HISTORY

As the years advance, Marmic continues its mission to protect the communities it serves and create new opportunities for the professionals and customers that are part of our family.

In 1951, Charles and Mary Lou Teeter start Joplin Fire Protection as a local family business in Joplin, MO. They knew all their customers by name and passed along their business values to their children and a handful of employees, garnering a reputation of friendly, honest service.

As the company grew outside of Southwest Missouri, a second company (Marmic) was formed from the names of Martha and Mickey (“Mar-Mic”) Teeter to serve these clients. This second generation of the Teeter family brought consistent fire protection services to new territories.

Subsequent generations of the Teeter family would continue to expand the business adding services besides fire extinguishers such as fire alarms and sprinklers. In the early 1990’s, Michael Teeter joined as a technician and would eventually become CEO 20 years later.

Marmic would enter the 2000’s with less than 100 employees and enter a period of exponential growth. Beyond geographic and service line expansion, in 2007, the “Anstar” business was formed and began distributing wholesale fire & life safety products both internally and to other fire protection companies coast to coast.

In 2011, Michael Teeter became President and CEO, subsequently making significant strides in growing Marmic to multiple states. The efforts materialized into a National Accounts team that could bring consistent service to customers with locations spanning across the nation.

In 2018 Thompson Street Capital Partners became the first outside investment partner. Acquisitions like Fire Control Systems (Charlotte, NC) would almost double the company’s footprint as its first east coast location. Other leading companies would continue to join our organization.

In 2022, Greg Bochicchio was named CEO and, with HGGC as strategic partner, would continue to accelerate a period of growth bringing leading companies and industry professionals together to expand the Marmic family. In 2024, KKR would become our largest strategic partner to date.

Today, Marmic is a leading fire protection company boasting over 1300+ employees in 50 locations (and growing) as well as numerous affiliate partners across the country. The original, customer-focused values are as strong today as they were over 70 years ago.
