A phone left charging on a bed. An e-bike battery charging in the hallway. These are some of the everyday moments behind Fire Prevention Week 2026, and exactly the kind of habit NFPA wants people paying closer attention to.
Every year, the NFPA holds Fire Prevention Week bringing awareness to a specific fire safety risk. This year, that focus is on charging habits and how people power the devices they use every day.
Safe Charging Is a Superpower
Running October 4-10, this year’s theme is Charge Into Fire Safety: Safe Charging Is a Superpower™, and it’s built entirely around how lithium-ion batteries can be safely charged to avoid fires.
Lithium-ion batteries are efficient and lightweight, which is why they are in many household devices. Power banks, phones, E-bikes, and scooters all run on the same battery chemistry, and the NFPA points to charging habits such as where a battery charges, how long it stays plugged in, and whether the charger matches the device as factors behind fire risk.
Charging has become muscle memory, and Fire Prevention Week is built around prompting people to take a second look at their charging habits.
Marmic Understands the Importance of Safe Charging
This isn’t new territory for us. Especially in the commercial and industrial space. Lithium-ion batteries show up across nearly every type of commercial and industrial facility. Forklifts and pallet jacks, backup power systems, EV charging stations, medical equipment, and the personal devices employees bring to work all run on the same chemistry. Just at a larger scale.
When a lithium-ion battery fails, it can escalate faster than a standard fire extinguisher is built to handle. That’s why our guidance leans on prevention first like sound charging and storage habits, staff trained to spot warning signs, and a clear response plan before anything goes wrong.

What We Will Cover for Fire Prevention Week
Over the next few weeks, we are going to cover a variety of topics around Fire Prevention Week looking at the data behind NFPA’s decision to spotlight charging habits, what’s actually in NFPA’s Fire Prevention Week pledge, and how the campaign’s message has evolved across decades of past themes.
We’ll also take a look at why every industry, not just households, has a stake in how batteries get charged, and how those in the commercial and industrial space can keep their fire prevention practices sharp.
